By this age, permanent teeth have already started to erupt and replace baby teeth. With their skills and extensive knowledge of tooth and jaw development, the orthodontist can already access the warning signs of problems that may arise in the years to come.<\/p><p class=\"pb-15\">To do so, the orthodontist assesses various important factors during a first orthodontic consultation performed at a young age. These factors include the width of the palate, the way the teeth are positioned on the jaws, and the alignment of the jaws to assess the relationship between the top and bottom. Using X-rays, the orthodontist can even observe permanent teeth that are still developing within the jawbone.<\/p><p>After the examination, the orthodontist can already diagnose problems.
