surface of a tooth. Veneers can be used to modify teeth that are discolored, worn, chipped, malformed, have spaces between them and the adjacent tooth, or are slightly misaligned. They modify and\/or improve the appearance of the tooth. The procedure consists of applying a thin layer of composite resin, which is a tooth-colored filling material, to the front of a tooth that is to be modified and esthetically improved. Beautiful cosmetic results can be achieved by improving the appearance of the teeth.<\/p><p class=\"semibold bleu pb-20\">Indications, Advantages and Limitations<\/p><p>Composite veneers are indicated for minor modifications of tooth shape or colour. Their advantages are that they are done in one appointment, there is no impression taking, no laboratory time is required, and they are the least expensive option. They are also repairable if chipped or broken, which porcelain veneers are not. Their disadvantage is that composite resins are more porous and less resistant than porcelain to chipping or staining, and they lose their luster with time. They are custom-made to fit over teeth in order to dramatically improve the smile and appearance. Porcelain veneers are thin laminates, about 0.5-0.7 millimeters thick, made of porcelain, that are bonded to the front surfaces of the tooth.<\/p><p class=\"semibold pb-20 bleu\">Indications, Advantages and Limitations<\/p><p>Porcelain veneers are used to correct more significant dental changes in shape, color and alignment. Their advantages are their beauty and durability. They are stronger than composites and they do not change colour or stain. Their disadvantages are that porcelain veneers are not done chairside. They are fabricated in a dental laboratory and therefore require at least two visits. The porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite veneers, however their life expectancy can easily exceed 10 years. This procedure takes two visits. First, a thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth surface, typically 0.3 to 0.7 millimeters. An impression is then taken and sent to a laboratory to fabricate a custom made porcelain veneer. A temporary acrylic veneer is placed on the tooth until the next visit.
